Living Expenses
In the case of students who live at home, monthly living expenses are about 50,000 to 70,000 yen including transportation fees, food and materials costs. In the case of students who rent an apartment, monthly living expenses are about 120,000 to 140,000 yen including rent (about 54,000 to 66,000 yen), food and material's costs. Because of telephone and e-mail charges, communication expenses bear severely on students' budgets. For this reason, most students have part-time jobs. Many students who study at the Hachioji campus work part-time on weekends and during long holidays to reduce their share of expenses. On the other hand, most students who attend evening courses at the Kaminoge campus work daytime to pay for school and other expenses. A survey conducted in 2004 shows average monthly costs for materials, depending on individuals, courses and academic years.
