コメント： Colour is a strong feature in these prints, but is used not so much for its descriptive qualities, but rather to evoke a mood or sensetion.
Often the colours are achieved by first printing with watercolour (as used traditionally in Japanese wood block printing), then printing with oil to create soft and rich surfaces built up with several transparent layers . I print from the relief of the wood, at times enhancing the surface by brushing with a wire brush, or using a blow torch to rise the grain. I also use varnish on top of the wood and acrylic modeling paste. This, along with intaglio /incised lines, gives a much wider range of marks. It also means there are three layers of syrface to print from and helps to create the illusion of depth.

色彩がこれらの版画の強烈な特徴となっていますが、そのものに叙述的な性質を持たせるというより、むしろ感覚や雰囲気を喚起するために色彩が使われます。多くの場合まず（伝統的な日本の木版画同様）水彩で版を刷り、次に油彩の版を重ねることで柔らかで豊かな表面を作り、何度か透明な層を重ねます。私は木をレリーフに用いてプリントしますが、時には表面をワイヤーブラシでこすって効果を高めたり、木肌を強調するためにブロートーチで焼いたりもします。加えて沈み彫り・切り込みによる線が、多種の模様を生みます。またこうすることで三層にわたってプリントが施され、作品に深みが生まれます。
