Banana Textile Project

About Banana Textile Project
“The Banana Textile Project: global environmental issues and their relation to design education” was selected as one of the programs with the theme “Promotion of environmental education linked to a sustainable society” in “Gendai GP” (Contemporary Good Practice), an educational support program offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
This three-year MEXT-funded project for under graduate students began in 2006, and seeks to develop a system of banana fabric production. In order to involve more students, research into the production system and design work have been combined as part of regular classwork. By bringing together environmental issues and design education, we aim to encourage students to become actively involved in the development of a sustainable society. In 2009, we have received CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funding from Dole Japan, Ltd. , and this will greatly help us to continue to energetically pursue our project activities.
